Process:
Sigma Hydrolyzed Fish Fertilizer is manufactured by equipment used in the bio-tech industry.
Fresh whole wild-caught fish (sardines, anchovies, ribbon fish, mackerel) and other fish trimmings are carefully sundried. Our unique and proprietary process uses cold-filtered water, and aerobic and enzymatic digestion (hydrolysis). No beneficial oils, collagens, or lipids are removed. The whole fish is utilized. The product is filtered several times; solid particles are pulverized and returned to the liquid for further processing. The whole process utilizing fresh fish takes approximately 4 hours.
This process helps to retain the enriching nutrients in the fish, such as the oils, collagens, amino acids, vitamins, hormones, enzymes, and over 60 trace minerals in the product. This allows them to become highly bio-active and deliver superior nutritional value to the plant and soil.
Sardines and anchovies are the most preferred fish to extract fish oil as both are very oily fish and loaded with beneficial fatty acids (EPA/DHA). Fish oil derived from sardines and anchovies are the top two raw materials used in pharmaceutical grade Omega-3 Fish Oil softgels that millions of people take every day.
Sardines and anchovies are short-lived and at the bottom of the aquatic food chain, feeding solely on plankton, and therefore do not concentrate heavy metals, such as mercury, and contaminants as do some other larger fish, thus sardines and anchovies are healthier.
To the best of our knowledge, our company is the only one offering a Hydrolyzed Fish Fertilizer made mainly from sardines and anchovies.
Although our products are not yet listed as organic by OMRI, the process is completely organic.
Water is purified prior to hydrolysis, and added to the dried fish, then it is blended and enzymatic hydrolysis takes place. Finally it is stabilized with food grade phosphoric acid to target pH 3.0 – 3.5 and passed through stringent quality control before packing is done.
The result is a superior nutrient-rich product that has over 60 trace minerals and other key benefits. One benefit is that Sigma Hydrolyzed Fish Fertilizer does not leach. It remains available in the soil due to the presence of the oils and collagens, which are not removed during processing. It is worth mentioning that fish emulsions lack these important nutrients.
Using cold enzymatic hydrolysis makes it easier for the plant and soil to absorb nutrients. Sigma Hydrolyzed Fish Fertilizer also improves the soil ecosystem and promotes the growth of microorganisms, which are the engines of conversion into essential plant nutrients. These soil organisms (Bacteria, Protozoa, Fungi, and Arthropods) also support the plant’s vitality and root structure. As a side benefit, our fish fertilizers (powder or liquid) continue working during colder temperatures, though at a slower pace.
Our supply of fish is year-round, allowing us to maintain a constant flow of fresh raw materials for our products at any point in your growing cycle.
Sigma Marine Hydrolyzed Fish Fertilizer can be applied as a foliar feed, sprayed directly on the plants or roots, used as a compost accelerator, and a soil nutritional builder.
