For a brief period of time (1995 – 1998) our company partnered with 4 shrimp farmers in Peru and exported to the U.S. It was short lived as the requirements were too big to handle on an ongoing basis and 2 episodes of shrimp disease put a crimp on future growth.
Signed up contracts with major U.S. supermarkets. Safeway alone required 500,000 lbs. of shrimp every month just for Northern California and Nevada stores. Safeway is the No.3 grocery chain in the U.S. About twice as large as Publix Markets.
